How TRON Resources Work

Bandwidth (BP)

Consumed by every transaction — TRX transfers, TRC-10/20 transfers, smart contract calls, staking operations. It covers the byte-size of the transaction on-chain. Each account regenerates Bandwidth automatically every day.

When resources run out: the network automatically burns TRX from the sender's wallet to cover the missing Bandwidth or Energy. The rates above (1,000 SUN/BP and 100 SUN/Energy) are the baseline — popular contracts with high usage can apply a dynamic multiplier up to 3.4× on the Energy cost.

Bandwidth-Only Transactions No Energy needed

These transactions do not touch any smart contract. They only consume Bandwidth (proportional to the byte size of the transaction). If you have enough free BP, the cost is literally zero TRX. If free BP is exhausted, TRX is burned at 1,000 SUN per BP.

Daily Free Bandwidth: When Is It Enough?

Each TRON account gets approximately 600 free Bandwidth Points per day, automatically regenerated every 24 hours. A standard TRX transfer uses ~267 BP, so the free quota covers roughly 2 standard TRX sends per day with no cost whatsoever.

Smart Contract Transactions — Energy + Bandwidth

Smart contract calls consume both Energy and Bandwidth. Without rented resources the network burns TRX directly from your wallet — at 100 SUN/Energy and 1,000 SUN/BP. A single USDT transfer can cost 6.5–13 TRX this way. Renting Energy first reduces that cost by 80–90%.

TRC-20 Token Transfers Energy + BP

Every TRC-20 transfer() call executes a smart contract — it needs both Energy and Bandwidth. The energy cost varies depending on whether the recipient already has a token balance (existing account in that token's storage) or is receiving for the first time. Popular tokens like USDT also carry a DEM penalty that increases energy cost by 20–40%.
